Broke Girl Guide: Beach Weekend

Current status: jobless, broke, and wanting to enjoy my last real summer break for a while. It's a hard combination to work with.

But, I went to Myrtle Beach this weekend for a wedding, and did it by spending less than $50! How? Well, being there only a weekend helped. And the fact that we were there for a wedding, there were some things I didn't have to pay for.

Gas was pretty cheap, since we all chipped in. We camped out, which was hot and uncomfortable (because I have never camped before and didn't know what to bring or expect), but only cost $12 a person!

For entertainment, we went to the beach (which is free), or swam at the pool that was at our campsite. One night we played mini golf, and we got a discount because they have a deal with our campsite. We went late, so we basically had the whole course to ourselves, which was nice.

I had taken some cereal bars for breakfast, and we had dinner at the reception after the wedding. I only paid for one meal; pizza and a drink at a restaurant called Cada's Coal Fire Pizza. We were on our way to Taco Bell when we saw the restaurant, and decided we wanted pizza instead. Good thing we stopped here because they had an awesome lunch deal, and I spent less than I would have at Taco Bell. Apparently, they are only open for 6 weeks, just in the summer. But that pizza was very good, and I'm glad we happened upon it.

I still can't believe I was in South Carolina, and did not go to Charleston, buy anything, or eat seafood...but these are the sacrifices we have to make when we don't have money.

Summer 2015 Movies

So far, the movies this summer have been more of a bust than a success, but there have been a couple good ones. I have not seen them all, but here are the ones I have seen so far:

**SPOILER ALERTS**

Aloha
I didn't know much about this movie going in to it, except that it had Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper. So how could you go wrong? So I thought. That movie did not know what it wanted to be, or let alone what the story line was. I still have no idea why the main characters were in Hawaii. All they did was hang out at his ex's house. Who else thought it was weird that they had broken up like 18 years ago and she still wasn't over him? Like what? I think they tried too hard to make it more interesting to the male viewers that got drug in by some female in their life to see the movie. It was obviously going to be a chick flick, but they also got pretty manly (or attempted to) with the whole space thing. I just don't get it.
Overall, I didn't like it. I don't even think I would recommend it to my mom (who loves gushy movies). I give it 4/10 stars.

Jurassic World
Was. So. GOOD. I know that there was a lot of hype for this movie, and it might not have been what some people expected, but I thought it was really good. Maybe because I haven't seen the originals.... I know, shame on me. I like how they made the big scary dinosaur to look like a T Rex with long arms. Because come on, the only thing that doesn't make a T Rex that scary is the fact he cant grab you with his arms...but this one can!
Some things that were odd about this movie: the popular realization that Claire wore heels. She walks around a theme park for a living. Why. Also, her outfit started out all white, and ended up with a gray tank top, pink shirt, and cream skirt? No. Also, why was there no safety bunker underground? I feel like Health And Safety would not have let a place with untamed, meat eating animals open without a place to keep people, who are made of meat, safe. Another thing, when all the rides were called off, and everyone was supposed to report to the main area, if the two kids weren't Claire's nephews, it seems as though no one would have known they were even out there.
My favorite part of the movie and my favorite character are combined because of 5 seconds in the movie: the guy trying to save his margaritas, one in each hand. That dude is my hero. No worry that there are dinosaurs roaming and flying everywhere, gotta get drunk! I feel ya, man.
Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone. I want a pet velociraptor, and I want to go to Jurassic World. I give it 8.5/10 stars.

Mad Max
Okay, I went into this movie knowing nothing about it but that it was a remake. That being said, for the first 15 minutes, I was so confused and kept wondering what in the world I was watching. But then I caught myself really getting into it, and wondering what was going to happen. Even though all they did was try to run away, and then realize they needed to turn around. And fought the whole time. But there was so many crazy characters in that movie, that I don't even know what to think. Shout out to Tom Hardy for his only lines consisting of either one word, or grunts. But he was good.
Overall, I actually liked this movie. There are only certain people I would recommend it to, and its definitely a movie that you rent, not own. I give it 7/10 stars.

Spy
If you like Melissa McCarthy, or simple humored movies, go on and watch. I personally need to remind myself to stay away from her movies. I feel like most of the humor was forced, or just not funny. I only really laughed about three times. Everyone I went with seemed to enjoy it thought.
Overall I give this movie a 4/10 stars.

Inside Out
Oh. My. Gosh. Best. Movie. Yet. I expected it to be good, but not as good as it was. It is definitely one of my favorite Pixar movies to date. That movie hit every emotion, and I was belly laughing through the whole thing. It is so relatable, no matter who you are. I went with three guys, all of us over the age of 20, and we all LOVED it.
Overall I would recommend this movie to everyone. And I give it a 10/10 stars.

Call me MOH

Well guys, it finally happened. That thing that really makes you sit back and think "yep. We are adults now..."

One of my really close friends is getting engaged.

And she asked me to be the Maid of Honor!

So let the planning begin! (Even though its over a year away.) Watching her go through this so far has made me realize, there is a LOT of time and money that goes into a wedding. Every last detail from the color of the bridesmaids dresses, to the flavor of the cake, to the kinds of plates that you use at the reception. It's almost insane....but so exciting! So, be prepared for MOH and wedding posts for the next year!

P.S: I kind of like that she is going first so I can prepare for when it is my turn. :)
