9 Things That Change After You Go To College

Oh, college. "The best four years of your life." So far, I would have to agree. College is a huge step in lfe, and it changes you. Some ways a little more than others. My biggest tip would be to make sure that you try your best in your classes, and get into as many extra activities as you can handle to meet as many people as you can. Have a good time, but remember what you are there for.

1. Your Relationship with your Family. For me, I got closer to my family. Especially my sisters. I'm not sure if it is because we are all getting older, or if I wasn"t with them so we didn't have as much chance to argue. We have all changed so much, getting our own style and personality. And while we are all so different from one another, we have some silmilarities, and it just works.

2. Eating Habbits. No more set dinner time with a home cooked meal. It's Taco Bell for dinner, and McDonalds for a midnight snack.....everyday. If it's not eating out, its eating the mega pack of microwave mac and cheese every day, and a whole bag of chips at night. Because I mean, why not? No one is around to tell you not to, and no one is around to make you food. And lets face it, cooking in a dorm is near impossible.

3. Cleaning Habbits. It takes a while to get into this habbit, and its not one that you exactly stick with regularly, but you do start cleaning on your own. Your clothes are all over the place, you can't find your hairbrush, and the fridge is looking gross. It's hard to handle for too long so you clean. A lot. And then there are the times when you are bored at 2 am, or you are trying to find a way to keep busy so you don't have to study. I was always more productive then.

4. Social Life. Your friend circle changes. Maybe not completely, but it does. The friends you make at college are different, yet very similar, than the ones you had in high school. And the ones you had in high school, some lwave and some stay. Some old friendships end in arguments and some just fall off, because lack of communication. Either way, its a time to grow as a person so it is bound to happen. Just embrace it and keep the memories.

5. Maturity. It seems that this happens a lot faster for some people, but it surely happens. Between your recent independence, time management, social life...it makes you do some growing up. And you start to realize that some of the stuff you would have cared about in high school is completely irrelevant now. No more drama, no one cares who you hang out with, no one cares what you wear...it doesn't matter.

6. Spending Habbits. The simple act of going to the movies seems to take a full time job to fund. You have a ten minute mental debate on that $7 t-shirt at Wal-Mart, because that price is equal to a whole meal at McDonalds. Going to the alcohol store and buying a $10 half gallon of Heaven Hill vodka because its cheap and a lot of alcohol.

7. Your Style. Your closet contains mostly comfy, lazy clothes to wear to class, and clothes to wear out to parties. And whatever "nice" clothes you have, don't have a brand name screen printed across the front.

8. Time Management. Time management is one thing that really hit me. Between your classes, homework, going to the gym, going out, intramural sports... you have to make time for everything, and know when to pass up the fun stuff for the necessary stuff. You have to decide when to sleep. A 15 minute nap between classes become a really good idea when you have a late class and a party to go to that night.

9. Home. Nowhere is really "home" anymore. There's your parents house, and theres your place at school. They are both where you live but not really where you belong. Going home becomes a chore because you don't want to accidently run into anyone you graduated with, and you're going to hear a lot of nagging about a lot of things from the parents all weekend.
