Effort. Exertion of physical or mental power. An earnest or strenuous attempt.
"I appreciate effort. No matter how small, silly, or irrelevant, I appreciate effort."
-Billy Chapata
Until pretty recently, I didn't think about this word much. I didn't realize exactly how much impact this word holds. But after some recent events and a lot of review on life, I have come to the conclusion that this word is probably the most important characteristic to have in life.
There is always someone who comes into your life to make you realize something you never noticed before. They open your eyes to a new way of life, a new way of thinking, or just make you realize some of the simple things. I know giving an effort is something that I have been/ still need to work on when it comes to some of my relationships. But it is something that I am trying to make a priority.

If you make an effort, it shows you care. Plain and simple. It's such an easy thing to do. Remind them often that you love them, and that they mean a lot to you. Comment on the little things, bring a smile to their face.
Make the effort to listen. Actually pay attention to what someone is telling you. The way their singing voice changes when their favorite song comes on the radio. Listen to their problems and how their day went. Listen to them give directions to a stranger.
Make the effort to remember. All the little things they like. Their favorite pizza topping. Remember the details of all your firsts. Remember who their best friends are, or whats going on with their family. Remember what upsets them, and what makes them happy.
Make the effort to actually try. Try to say something to make them laugh. Try a little harder to make time for them. Ask them how they are every once in a while, and check up on whats going on in their life. Go the extra mile to actually get to know them.

Make the effort to pay attention. To the ways they react to certain things. The way they drive. The jokes they laugh at. The way they laugh. The song lyrics they cling to. Pay attention enough so that you can tell the second you see them, that they are upset about something.
And remember, if you try and don't succeed, at least you tried. It is very likely that your efforts will be noticed, and not go forgotten.
